Country legend Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne has taken aim at John Rich for suggesting her father would be a John McCain voter at a presidential campaign rally.
Rich, who is a big fan of the Republican, recently stated, "I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around," at a recent campaign stop, and the remark has upset the late star's kin.
In a statement, Rosanne Cash says, "It is appalling to me that people still want to invoke my father's name, five years after his death, to ascribe beliefs, ideals, values and loyalties to him that cannot possibly be determined, and to try to further their own agendas by doing so.
"I knew my father pretty well, at least better than some of those who entitle themselves to his legacy and his supposed ideals, and even I would not presume to say publicly what I know he thought or felt.
"This is especially dangerous in the case of political affiliation. It is unfair and presumptuous to use him to bolster any platform. I would ask that my father not be co-opted in this election for either side, since he is clearly not here to defend or state his own allegiance."
In the September issue of AllureCarrie Underwood tells the mag that her ex boyfriend Tony Romo still calls her--even though he's dating Jessica Simpson.
"The phone will ring and it'll be him, and I'll maybe not answer," Underwood says.
But Simpson insists that isn't true.
"I looked at his call log," she said Wednesday in an interview with Nashville radio station, 107.5 The River. "Tony and I both laughed at that. We got a chuckle out of it."
The talented group of women are joining voices for the single, "Just Stand Up," a song which will benefit the "Stand Up for Cancer" fund-raising drive to be aired on September 5.
The chorus of the song invokes hope and strength in the face of cancer:
If the mind keeps thinking you’ve had enough
But the heart keeps telling you don’t give up
Who are we to be questioning, wondering what is what
Don’t give up
THROUGH IT ALL, JUST STAND UP!
According to the Dallas Morning NewsJessica Simpson will be the new spokesperson for Stampede Light Plus, made by the Dallas' Stampede Brewing Co.
The paper also reports that in addition to lending her pretty face to the beer's ads, she is taking a 15 percent stake in the company.
"She's the face of the brand now," Lawrence Schwartz, Stampede's president and chief executive said.
"As an entrepreneur, I am always looking for ways to diversify my portfolio with good ideas and good people," Simpson said in a statement. "Yes, I work out and take care of myself, but I also like a cold beer once in a while."
Singer Jewel founded charity group Project Clean Water after experiencing the problems poverty-stricken people in the Third World suffer from while living in her car.
The newlywed singer formed the organization with her brother to help fund and build wells and clean-water resources in the poorest areas of the world.
And her own tough background inspired her to get active.
Jewel, who lived in her car as she was attempting to make a living as a musician in Los Angeles, says, "When I was homeless I had bad kidneys and couldn't afford clean water."
In 11 years, her charity has funded 35 wells in 15 countries, according to magazine American Cowboy.
Country star John Rich jumped at the chance to publicly endorse presidential candidate John McCain and supply him with a rocking campaign anthem - because the Senator is his own personal superhero.
The Big & Rich star wrote "Raisin' McCain" to honor the Republican, who survived the atrocities of a prisoner-of-war camp in the Vietnam War.
He says, "He's a guy that was physically tortured for five-and-a-half years in Vietnam, had his bones broken and nobody reset them; he reset his own arms... His arms (still) don't work right because when they snapped his bones there was no doctor to reset his bones for him."
McCain supporters can download Rich's new song for free on his website JohnRich.com.

Helms was the last remaining member of Williams' Drifting Cowboys band. He died of a heart attack at the Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday.
Country singer Marty Stuart has paid tribute to the musician, saying, "He was the dean of Nashville musicians and truly an essential part of the Hank Williams legacy."
Helms joined the Drifting Cowboys in 1949 after Williams became a Grand Ole Opry star.
After Williams' death of a drug overdose in 1953, Helms went on to perform with artists including Ray Price, Ferlin Husky and Cal Smith - as well as Williams' son Hank Williams, Jr. and grandson Hank Williams III.
Country star Kenny Chesney turned sports hero at the New Orleans Saints' pre-season practice last week - when he won the team a Sunday off.
Saints coach Sean Payton, who is a friend of the singer, invited Chesney to join the footballers at Thursday's on-field work-out, and promised to give the players a day to themselves if the visitor could catch a punt.
Chesney, wearing helmet, pads and a Saints shirt with his name on the back, failed to keep a hold of his first two attempts, but caught the third - much to the delight of his team-mates for the day.
The country star, who was a top high school footballer in Tennessee, was then saluted by Payton, who insisted the singer was part of the team.
A thrilled Chesney said, "I quit growing too young to ever think about getting to have a shot at playing in college, so this is about as much fun I can have."

STARKVILLE, Mississippi, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Famed recording artist Rosanne Cash is to headline the 2nd annual Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival in Starkville, Mississippi, festival organizers said.
The event is to take place in the city where Cash's late father, music icon Johnny Cash, was arrested more than 40 years ago.
"Paying tribute to the Man in Black's life through redemption and flowers Oct. 17 through 19, Cash's friends, family and fans from throughout the world are to gather to honor his life and legacy," planners said in a release. "The festival will feature music, guest speakers, a charity auction and a symbolic pardon of Cash's crime of 'pickin' flowers' in the small northeastern Mississippi town."
Johnny Cash was arrested for public drunkenness in Starkville on May 11, 1965 after he performed at Mississippi State University. He recalled the incident in his song, "Starkville City Jail."
Marshall Grant, Cash's original bassist and former tour manager, helped organize the festival. He said he thinks Cash would have appreciated the tribute to his "less than perfect life."
"For everything he did, something good seemed to come out of it," Grant said in a statement. "Starkville is a good example."

Country star Carrie Underwood has been single for four months - and blames fame for hindering her love life.
The singer, who ended her romance with Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford in April, admits she hasn't been able to find a boyfriend since.
And Underwood is convinced her celebrity status is keeping her single.
She tells Allure magazine, "You never really know why somebody wants to be around you or if they do genuinely like you.
"I wish everyone had a label on their forehead so you could automatically tell their intentions. Sometimes you just wish that no one wanted anything from you."

People said the newlyweds have been together for a decade and share a 2,200-acre ranch in Texas.
